What nutrients are in Essential Food?

Pre-sprouted or Aktivated Barley:

Pre-sprouted means that it is harvested at the point just before the grain sprouts. At this point the seed has “Activated” meaning it is at it’s peak of nutritional content to feed the growing plant and many important healthy enzymes are formed to being the growing process. In this form it provides the maximum nutrition and provides up to 400 times the energy of the grain if it is harvested earlier. Barleyitself is a very interesting grain. Like all grains it is a species of grass, it contains a lot of gluten, so is not suitable if you are gluten intolerant. It was
first harvested over 7,000 years ago and was selectively cultivated to make it edible, but apart from that it is closer to it’s original seed form than other grains that have been selectively harvested over thousands of years to make them bigger (but also changing their nutritional balance).
The Romans used barley as a staple and it was a food of their armies and gladiators.

Barley contains several vitamins and minerals including niacin (Vitamin B3), thiamine (Vitamin B1), selenium, iron, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus and copper. Barley is a good source
of protein, though it is not a complete protein, containing 8 of the essential amino acids. It contains important antioxidants and contains both soluble and insoluble fibre, therefore assisting digestion and the colonisation of the gut with probiotic bacteria (meaning it is a prebiotic).


Apple contains lots of vitamins and digestive enzymes, helping to prevent digestive disorders, it is a great source of antioxidants.


Also known as flaxseed it contains most of the B vitamins, magnesium and manganese, it is rich in fibre but most importantly it is the richest land vegetable source of Omega 3 fatty
acids that help keep a healthy heart and have anti inflammatory function.

Barley Grass

Barley grass is the leaf of the Barley plant, as opposed to the seed. It is regarded as a green super food and is rich in chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.


Quinoa is a seed from a plant in the goosefoot family, It contains complete protein and is also rich in fibre, minerals, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium and iron. Quinoa started a
staple in parts of South America but is becoming increasingly popular in other countries.

Bilberry Fruit:

Bilberries are rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants and bioflavenoids.


Carrots are rich in B Vitamins, as well as Vitamin A C D E and K, it is also ricjh in minerals, namely Calcium, Iron, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc, Copper,
Manganese, Selenium, Fluoride, as well as being rich in important fatty acids and fibre.
